“Not Long Now” by James Blake

I love everything Blake does. I feel confident knowing any new music I hear from him will be a pleasurable listen. I love his original aesthetics, that sort of post-dubstep sound, just as much as his more controversial piano-based productions. I love that him singing into a microphone while playing a piano is considered controversial because it is so stark, vulnerable, and minimal. I love how he ventures back and forth from excessive synths to near-acapella works. And I love when he settles somewhere in the middle, which is eventually what this song becomes: a sort of balancing act between the two sides of James Blake that I have been and will continue to be a fan of as he progresses musically.

Yes: this is the track. I’d been thinking that the Enough Thunder EP was sweatpants and I’m realizing now it’s a sweater: still not the most thrilling thing in your closet but better for you than that hoodie. This post has me thinking it might be time to try on Klavierwerke again, see if it finally fits.
